Max for Live devices
Max for Live is a visual programming language that allows you to build your own instruments and effects for Ableton Live. It's a powerful tool that can be used to create custom devices that can be used in your music production workflow.
If you have an idea for a device that you want to build, I can help you with:
Pricing will have to be determined.
Videosync enables you to treat video as audio inside Ableton Live. It's essentially a video engine that integrates with Live on a deep level. Think of using multiple audio tracks to play back video clips and blending them, syncing/warping video playback to the tempo of your Live Set, using video effects in the same manner as audio effects, and routing video signals between tracks using the Audio In/Out menus in the mixer.
Around 2020 is when I got involved in Videosync's development, primarily focusing on designing the UI/UX for both the application, as well as for all the Max for Live devices that come with the application.
Similar to Videosync, Beam for Live is a lighting engine that integrates with Live on a deep level. It allows you to use any combination of lighting fixtures by tagging such a group. Each light within a tag group can then be triggered with MIDI notes in one of the included instruments. The instruments have a dropdown menu to select which tag group to control. From that point it's just a regular MIDI instrument, so you can play it with a MIDI controller or draw notes in the MIDI clip, and use the built in envelopes.
I got involded with Beam in 2020 after I made a video tutorial about it. In terms of software development my main involvement has been with the UI/UX design of the user interface of the application. The original Max for Live devices that came with Beam 1.0 (Par, MovingHead, Strobe, Recolor, Scale, LFO) were designed by Trang Nguyen (thanks Trang!), so my focus has been on maintaining and improving them, as well as introducing new devices like Generic and External In.
Building Max Devices is a pack included with Live 12 Suite. It takes you through the steps you need to build your own Max tools, with helpful lesson texts spread out across multiple Live Sets.
The pack is made up of four parts:
My involvement in this project was very broad, with some of my main focuses being on the development of the devices, their user interfaces as well as internal patches, aiming for a consistent look and feel across all devices and patches, and the design of the included lessons.
