LivePlayState is a new Max for Live device that allows you to control parameters in Ableton Live based on the transport state.
The device contains 8 rows of which each can be assigned to a different parameter.
Rise and Fall
The Rise column controls the time it takes to reach the maximum value after pressing Play. The Fall column controls the time it takes to reach the minimum value after pressing Stop.
Both Rise and Fall can be delayed by a set amount of time.
The device is available for free download on the LivePlayState page.
Example use cases
- A simple example for wanting to use this device with an audio effect, is by taking the Vinyl Distortion effect from Live’s browser, and turning up the Crackle Volume. By default the Crackle is always audible, but with LivePlayState you can make it only audible when the transport is playing.
- Another example is mapping LivePlayState to the Track Volume of a Group Track when the containing tracks generate video using Videosync. When the transport is stopped, the visuals can gradually fade out.
